2024 Guild Auditions 505 Park St.-June 21-22-23
The National Guild Auditions functions similarly to the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music with several major differences. We take Theory and Skills Examinations separately under the auspices of the Virginia State Music Teachers Association. This allows us a great range of choice in repertoire for the performance exam, which is why this has become my preference.
The primary function of the National Guild of Piano Teachers provides goals and awards for the earliest beginner through the advanced pianist. One can determine the goals for achievement based upon age, ability and interest. Piano students have an annual opportunity to attain these goals through non-competitive adjudication in the Annual National Piano Playing Auditions. Auditions are private with well-qualified musicians serving as judges. Students are judged on individual merit in the areas of accuracy, continuity, phrasing, pedaling, musicianship, dynamics, rhythm, tempo, tone, interpretation, style, and technique. Students receive a pin, certificate and report card at the conclusion of their annual audition..
The student and I choose the repertoire to be prepared and presented. The repertoire is selected from pieces each student has practiced extensively and played in a studio recital. There are 7 pieces chosen. In addition, musicianship phases such as scales, sight reading and chords may be added to bring the total to 10. Please glance at the National Guild page on your Google Sheet. The judge is provided a personalized and specific Guild Report Card for the judging day. The student receives this card a few days after the examination. Participating students only need to take their original music with tabs that correspond to the numbers of the pieces as listed on the Guild Report card. I tab the pieces during the student's lesson preceding the examination.
All of the specific information will be listed on the participating students personal Google Doc.
