First Prize: $300;
Second Prize $150.
ALL WMTA RULES APPLY. This competition is held in audition format.
Eligibility:- Open to students in 9th through 12th grades. - Previous first-place winners are ineligible to participate. - Students who enter the Lichtenberg Competition may not enter the Hartman Competition in the same year.
Repertoire Requirements:
Four selections, one from each group:
1. Baroque: Works from the Baroque period or transcriptions. For example: a Bach Prelude and Fugue; two Sonatas by Scarlatti or Soler; a Bach-Busoni transcription; three movements of a Suite.
2. Classical: A movement of a Sonata by Haydn, Clementi, Beethoven, Mozart or early Schubert.
3. Romantic: Any major composition.
4. Impressionistic/Contemporary: An Impressionistic period piece or a piece written in the 20th or 21st century. All repertoire selections must be approved by the Chair before the deadline. Consult with the Chair in advance if you have any questions.
