The Ylda Novik Memorial Concerto Competition for Pianists
CONGRATULATIONS TO FINALISTS: JOANNA CHENG, THAI NGUYEN, ZACK LAM, SOPHIA LIN. Dates: TBA (Preliminaries) and Sunday, TBA (Finals), 2020 Time: This is an all-day event. Dr. Lee registers all students. Participants will be notified of their assigned time after the deadline. Location: Steinway Recital Hall, 11611 Old Georgetown Rd North Bethesda, MD Application fee: Junior Division $35 per student, Senior Division $50 per student; Nonmember fee: additional $50 per applicant Postmark deadline: FEBRUARY 8 ALL WMTA RULES APPLY. This competition is held in audition format. Awards: - Senior division: 1st place will be a monetary prize and a performance with the Capital City Symphony of the concerto entered. A 2nd place monetary prize and an Honorable Mention will be awarded. - Junior Division: only monetary prizes will be awarded. Eligibility: - Previous first-place winners are not eligible to enter the same division of the Competition again. Junior Division: Open to elementary- and middle-school students. - Senior Division: Open to any student aged 19 or younger currently in high school, middle school or elementary school in the Washington metropolitan area. Special rules: - This is a two-tiered competition with Preliminaries and Finals. - Applicants must provide their own accompanist at each level of the competition. The accompanist may be anyone other than the student’s own teacher. - Students must provide the judges with scores of their pieces. All participants are responsible for complying with U.S. copyright law. For use of copied or downloaded materials, please refer to the WMTA General Rules. REPERTOIRE: Junior Division: Any one movement from a standard concerto. Senior Division: An entire concerto from the standard repertoire, with the exception of Beethoven: Concerto #3 and Prokofieff: Concerto #3. |
Activities/Competition Information is located in the 2017-2018 Activities Google File Audition/Exam/Competition days and times will be found in the 2017-2018 Activities Google File If you are allowed to request a participation time, this will be clearly stated on our website on the event's information page. A studiowide email will alert you when times for specific events are posted. This information will be posted as soon as I receive it. Specific activity information is located on our studio website on the scroll down menu under the ACTIVITIES main heading. If you need an adjudication sheet one will be given to you at the lesson preceding the event. Otherwise, no sheet is required. If the student is to take a judging sheet that information will be included in the activitie's page on the studio website. Make certain that you check ONE MONTH before any activity to ensure you have original copies of music being performed Without a Photocopy release form (available only for unpublished music) photocopies are never allowed at events, and results in disqualification. Late arrival results in disqualification Failure to perform the repertoire listed on the program/judging sheet/judging application results in disqualification. Leaving before the assigned performance group results in disqualification Arguing/complaining to the event chairman results in disqualification Disputing results or interchanges with event judges results in disqualification As representatives of our studio, please be so kind to read the Performance Guidelines found in the online handbook. |
